Distance runners brush aside frosty conditions

Second annual Holiday Half Marathon takes over Adidas campus
By Cliff Pfenning,

The December cold of an early start didn't slow down the second annual Holiday Half Marathon Sunday in North Portland.

At least it wasn't windy, as it was last year.

More than 1,000 runners braved the freezing conditions for 13.1 miles, beginning and ending at the Adidas North America campus as part of the event, which also included a five-kilometer run.

Dave Lyons of Portland finished in 1 hour, 10 minutes, 10 seconds to claim first place. Lori Burrato of Spokane, Wash., won the women's race in 1:28:24.

The races are expected to generate more than $30,000 to support various non-profit groups beginning with the Portland-based Freshwater Trust.
