PORTLAND - Sunset freshman Ember Stratton helped put her team squarely in the role of favorite to win the girls state cross country title with an individual victory at the Nike XC Portland meet Saturday at Portland Meadows.

And, her teammates followed her lead.

Stratton ran to a six-second victory over the 5,000-meter course, and the Apollos won the team title scoring just 50 points on the sun-filled day.

Sunset easily beat Cherry Creek, Colo., to win the team title, with Summit of Bend third.
