Southridge moves to state champion ranks

Tualatin, Ashland, West Albany all win titles

Led by a group of four all-tournament first-team picks, Southridge played its way past defending champion Newberg and won its first water polo boys state title, Nov. 12, at the Osborn Aquatic Center on the campus of Oregon State University.

The Skyhawks beat Newberg 9-6 in the Class 6A final, just after Tualatin, beat Newberg's girls team for the second year in a row, 12-11 in overtime.

Ashland's boys and the girls from West Albany won the Class 5A titles. Ashland beat West Albany 11-6 in the boys final, while West Albany beat Ashland 11-6 in the girls final.

 

Tualatin tames field in 2010

Tualatin's girls, who placed second two of the past three seasons, beat defending champion Newberg 6-5 for its first championship and ending the Tigers' title run at five-straight years.

That win followed two new champions in the 5A tournament.

The West Albany boys - third the past two seasons, beat two-time defending champion Ashland 10-8 in the final.

In the girls final, Sandy beat West Albany 10-4 for its first title in its first trip to the championship game.

Newberg's boys beat Tualatin 19-5 for its sixth-straight title
