Beckham blowout at Jeld-Wen
Wow.
The event fans came to see happened Saturday night at Jeld-Wen Field, it just didn't have the outcome most were hoping for.
In their first game under coach Gavin Wilkinson, the Portland Timbers gave up four goals in the opening 35 minutes and eventually lost 5-3 to the Los Angeles Galaxy in MLS action.
International superstar David Beckham scored twice after Portland had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute, Landon Donovan converted a penalty kick and Robbie Keane scored two goals for the Galaxy.
The five goals were the most Portland has given up this season.
Kris Boyd scored twice, and Kosuke Kimura scored his first goal in his second game in a Timbers uniform and first at Jeld-Wen and a sold-out crowd of 20,438..
The loss dropped Portland to 5-8-4, 19 points, and kept them from moving to within a points of the Galaxy in the race for fifth place in the Western Conference and a playoff berth. The Timbers take to the road for games Wednesday at Chivas USA in Los Angeles and then to Dallas Saturday.
