HILLSORO - Central Catholic's defense carried it to the Class 6A boys soccer state title Saturday by anchoring a 3-0 win over Grant at Hillsboro Stadium.
The Rams got goals by Nick Evans, Eliezar Gutierrez and Gabe Parrish, and recorded their 13th shutout of the season - including all five playoff games.
"Grant gave us a great game, but we stayed together and pulled through," Central Catholic coach Jimmy Weber said. "It's been a while since we've won state, so this is great for our program."
The Rams, who lost to Jesuit in the final last year, finished the season 17-1-1.
The title is the second of the fall for Central Catholic, adding to the boys cross country title. Last week, the volleyball team lost in the final. The football team is ranked No. 1.
"We're having a great fall, yes," Weber said.
Grant finished with an 11-10 edge in shots, but couldn't get one past Rams goalkeeper Jacob Flaherty, who had five saves. The Generals, who were in the final for the fourth time in eight years, finished at 14-3-2 overall.
