GRESHAM - In the lull between the final two events at the Class 4A state swim finals at Mt. Hood Community College Saturday, North Bend coach Sasha Trichler tracked down her nearby swimmers and showed the a key result - Catlin Gabel had been disqualified from the final relay event. And, that bumped the Bulldogs into first.

It was an unexpected state championship and the girls reacted accordingly.

On the boys side of the same meet, Newport won its first title, although without the drama as it dominated the meet.

In the Class 6A meet there was plenty of drama in scoring for the girls, and Sunset edged Jesuit by 1.5 points, which in the overall aspects of the meet boiled down to a few tenths of seconds in numerous races. Jesuit's boys won their fourth straight title.

Bend won the boys and girls 5A titles for the second consecutive year.
